The EXY10 1.5 is a four-seat Sera coupe built from 1990 to 1995, with a 110 PS 1.5-liter 5E-FHE four-cylinder driving the front wheels. Its butterfly doors hinge near the top of the windscreen and swing forward and up, needing only 43 cm of space beside the car. Gordon Murray, who designed the McLaren F1, cited the Sera as the inspiration for that car's doors.

STORY

The Sera was the production version of the AXV-II concept and went on sale on 8 March 1990, built on Starlet mechanicals with a 1.5-litre 5E-FHE of 110 PS. Its butterfly doors were hinged at the front centre of the roof and at the base of the A-pillar, and they opened upward and outward, with a glass area that ran across the roof and down into the doors. Gordon Murray has said the arrangement influenced his thinking on the McLaren F1. Production ran to December 1995 and sales to January 1996. Toyota registered 15,834 cars in Japan, and the total with exports came to about 16,800.
