STORY
The Sienna took over from the mid-engined, rear-drive Previa in North America, a front-drive minivan on Camry mechanicals that went on sale in 1997 for the 1998 model year and was assembled at Georgetown, Kentucky, with a 3.0-litre V6. Toyota's plant records close Sienna build in Kentucky in December 2002 and open it at Princeton, Indiana, in January 2003, for the XL20 of the 2004 model year, which offered all-wheel drive for the first time on a Sienna. The XL30 of 2011 added a four-cylinder alongside a 266 hp V6, which went to 296 hp for the 2017 model year. Toyota announced the XL40 on 18 May 2020 for the 2021 model year and made the Sienna hybrid-only, quoting 243 horsepower before launch and 245 once certified.
