STORY

The Succeed and the Probox were one commercial-van programme split in two on 2 July 2002, the Succeed taking the medium-size slot vacated by the Caldina Van and the Probox the compact slot of the Corolla and Sprinter vans. They differed in length and load bay, the Succeed van swallowing 1,830 mm and 450 kg against the Probox's 1,310 mm and 400 kg, and Toyota kept them apart by channel, the Succeed going to Toyota and Toyopet stores while the Probox went to Corolla and Netz. Daihatsu's Kyoto plant built both. Engines ran from a 1.5-litre 1NZ-FE to a 1.4-litre 1ND-TV diesel, dropped in September 2007, with a CNG version added in April 2003. The facelift of 1 September 2014 moved the line to the 160 series, a hybrid was announced on 19 November 2018 and sold from that 3 December, and the Succeed name was retired in 2020, leaving the Probox.
