STORY
The line started on 13 April 1978, when Toyota put a longer nose on the Celica to take a straight six and called it Celica XX in Japan, Celica Supra abroad; the wheelbase grew 130 mm and the length 270 mm to take the engine, which was aimed at the Nissan Fairlady Z. The A60 followed on 2 July 1981. Only with the A70 of February 1986 did the car separate from the Celica and carry the Supra name in Japan too, and the A80 of 24 May 1993 brought the 2JZ-GTE, which in twin-turbo form gave 280 PS at home and 320 hp abroad. Japanese production ended in July 2002. Toyota revived the name with the GR Supra, built by Magna Steyr in Graz from March 2019 and sold in Japan from that May.
