STORY
The ToyoAce began in September 1954 as the Toyopet Light Truck SKB, a one-ton semi-cab-over meant to displace Japan's three-wheeled delivery trucks; a public naming contest supplied the ToyoAce name in 1956, and Toyota opened the Toyopet dealer chain and cut the price from 625,000 to 460,000 yen to get within reach of the three-wheelers. The SK20 of 16 March 1959 moved the engine under the seats, seated three and was the first Japanese truck with a tilt cab; its 1-litre unit was rated at 33 PS and then 45 PS from October 1959. Full cab-over bodywork arrived with the RY20 and LY20 of March 1979, cutting 345 mm from the wheelbase. The generation of August 1985 took the Dyna as its base, and by the sixth car of May 1995 Toyota said the two differed only in dealer channel, grille and name. The 2-tonne XZU600 of July 2011 came to Toyota from Hino, and the name was retired in 2020.
