STORY

The Century went into production in 1967 as Toyota's chauffeur-driven saloon, built on the lineage of the 1964 Crown Eight's 2.6-litre V8, and a 3.0-litre version of that V8 arrived the same year. A second generation followed in 1997 with a 5.0-litre V12, which Motor1 calls Japan's first mass-produced V12. Toyota's third generation went on sale in Japan in 2018 with a 5.0-litre V8 hybrid system, and Toyota rates the complete hybrid system at 317 kW (431 PS). The catalog lists the Century under one name across all three generations and its generation list includes the GRG75 SUV, which this text does not cover.
