STORY
The Sprinter began on 1 May 1968 as the Corolla Sprinter, a two-door coupe sold through a dealer network Toyota created for it, Toyota Auto, which later became Netz. The E20 of 1970 came as that coupe and, from August 1971, a four-door sedan. Liftbacks arrived with the E30 and E50 later in the decade, a 1.8 diesel was added to the sedan in February 1982, and the twin-cam Sprinter Trueno ran alongside the Corolla Levin from 1972. The name covered seven body generations through to the E110. The sedan was dropped on 22 December 2000, the Sprinter Cielo hatchback giving way to the Allex in January 2001, and the van was replaced by the Probox in July 2002.
