STORY
Tank and Roomy were one Daihatsu-developed tall two-box car, and Toyota sold them from 9 November 2016 through separate chains: the Roomy at Toyota and Corolla stores, the Tank at Toyopet and Netz stores. Daihatsu announced the same car as the Thor that day and built both at its Ikeda head-office plant. Toyota's release spells out the split, the Tank getting narrow headlamps and a wide lower grille for a dynamic look against the Roomy's heavier lamps and flatter grille, four front designs in all once the Custom grades were counted. Power came from a 1.0-litre three, either the 1KR-FE or a new 1KR-VET turbo making 140 Nm, through a CVT. Each name was given a monthly target of 3,750 units; by 8 December 2016 orders stood at about 16,700 Tanks and 18,300 Roomys. The Tank name was dropped at the September 2020 facelift, issued for the Roomy alone.
