STORY
The first Venza was a tall Camry-based wagon aimed at American buyers drifting from sedans to crossovers. Toyota unveiled it at the Detroit auto show on 14 January 2008, built it at Georgetown, Kentucky, and sold it from the 2009 model year with a 182 hp 2.7-litre four, later re-rated to 181, or a 268 hp 3.5 V6, front or all-wheel drive. The 2015 model year was its last in the United States. Toyota revived the name on 18 May 2020 for a quite different car: the 2021 Venza was built at Takaoka in Japan, came only as a hybrid rated 219 hp, and had electronic on-demand all-wheel drive as standard. The press treated it as the Japanese XU80 Harrier under another badge, though Toyota never said so. It ran through the 2024 model year.
