STORY

The xA was the first-generation Toyota ist sold in North America under Scion, the marque Toyota launched in June 2003 at 105 California dealers as its third brand in the United States after Toyota and Lexus. The ist went on sale in Japan on 8 May 2002 as the NCP60, NCP61 and NCP65, a tall compact on Vitz mechanicals sold through Toyopet Store and Netz, and the export version was the NCP61L with the 1.5-litre 1NZ-FE rated at 108 hp, five doors and front drive, assembled at Takaoka in Toyota City. Two United States government registers list the xA for the 2004, 2005 and 2006 model years only, with the xB in 2004 and the tC from 2005; none list a 2003 or 2007 xA, and the xD arrived for 2008. The first ist generation ran to July 2007 in Japan, and the name itself lasted there until 2016.
