Vienta

1995 – 2000

The Vienta was the V6 version of the locally built Camry sold in Australia from 1993 to 2000, placed above the four-cylinder cars as a more upmarket sedan. It replaced the imported Cressida, took its own Toyota badge in 1995, and left the range in 2000.

The Story

Why the Vienta matters

Toyota Australia introduced the Camry Vienta in February 1993 as the V6 flagship of its locally built, wide-body Camry range, filling the gap left by the imported Cressida. A lower-specification Touring model arrived in late 1993 to challenge the Holden Commodore Acclaim, and the entry Executive trim was dropped in April 1994 when equipment levels were raised. In 1995 the Camry name was removed from the six-cylinder cars to separate them from the four-cylinder models, and they were sold simply as the Toyota Vienta. The Holden Apollo, a rebadged Camry sold from 1989 to 1996 under the GM and Toyota sharing arrangement, sat beside it in the Australian market. The Vienta name left the range in 2000.
