STORY
The Windom brought the North American Lexus ES to Japanese showrooms. Introduced on 30 September 1991, the VCV10 was the domestic version of the second-generation ES, built on the export fourth-generation Camry platform as a four-door pillared hardtop; a transverse 2,958 cc 3VZ-FE V6 drove the front wheels with 200 PS through a four-speed electronic automatic, behind four projector headlamps. August 1996 brought the MCV20, 50 mm longer in the wheelbase, with a 3.0-litre 1MZ-FE at 210 PS taken from the Avalon, a new 2.5-litre 2MZ-FE at 200 PS and a GOA body shell; VVT-i lifted the 3.0 to 215 PS in August 1998. The MCV30 of August 2001 took the new Camry platform, swapped the hardtop for a plain sedan, widened to 1,810 mm and used only the 1MZ-FE at 158 kW. Tsutsumi built it, joined by Toyota Motor Kyushu's Miyata plant from May 1997 to December 2001, and production ended in February 2006.
