STORY

The Trabant 601 is a compact car built in East Germany by VEB Sachsenring from the 1960s to 1990, and it became the most common vehicle of the GDR. It used a Duroplast body over a steel frame and a small air-cooled two-stroke engine, remaining largely unchanged for nearly three decades. Long waiting lists and its role in the fall of the Berlin Wall made it a lasting cultural symbol.
