STORY

The modern Volkswagen Beetle was a front-engine, front-wheel-drive car in retro style, built on Golf underpinnings. It repeated the styling cues of the original Beetle. The New Beetle went into series production in Puebla, Mexico, in October 1997 and had its official premiere at the Detroit show in January 1998. It is built on the A4 (Golf Mk4) platform. A second, more masculine generation followed in 2011. Production ended in 2019 without a direct successor.
