The Mk4 Golf GTI is a three-door hatchback built from 1998 to 2004, with a 1.8-litre turbo four making 150 PS and a 5-speed manual. In 2001 VW marked 25 years since the first GTI of 1976 with an anniversary edition. It came with 18-inch BBS RC wheels, red and black Recaro seats and red brake calipers, and UK cars carried numbered plaques.

The Volkswagen Golf is a compact car introduced in 1974 as the front-engine, front-wheel-drive successor to the Beetle, one of the most influential and best-selling cars in history. Its first generation, styled by Giugiaro, defined the modern hatchback class. The GTI hot hatch and many body variants came later. Eight generations have been produced, with tens of millions sold worldwide.
