STORY

The Volkswagen Golf is a compact car introduced in 1974 as the front-engine, front-wheel-drive successor to the Beetle, one of the most influential and best-selling cars in history. Its Giugiaro-styled first generation defined the modern hatchback class, and it has since spawned the GTI hot hatch and numerous body variants. Eight generations have been produced, with tens of millions sold worldwide.
