The ID.5 is the coupe-bodied counterpart to the ID.4, revealed in November 2021 together with a dual-motor ID.5 GTX. Series production officially began at the Zwickau plant in late January 2022, which Volkswagen described as completing that factory's conversion to electric vehicles only; it then built six MEB models for three brands, among them the ID.4 that had gone into production there in 2020. At launch the rear-drive ID.5 offered 128 kW or 150 kW and the GTX a peak of 220 kW, all with an 82 kWh battery, 77 kWh of it usable.
A coupe-styled electric SUV launched in 2021, effectively a sleeker fastback version of the ID.4 on the MEB platform. It offers rear- and all-wheel drive, including the sportier GTX performance variant.
