The Magotan B8 GTE is a plug-in hybrid sedan built from 2018 to 2022, with four doors and five seats. A turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine works with an electric motor and a 13 kWh battery for 211 PS and 400 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

STORY

The Magotan is the name FAW-Volkswagen gave in China to the Passat built at Changchun. It went on sale in 2007 as a sedan based on the Passat B6, with 1.8 or 2.0-litre engines. The older B5 had been lengthened by 77 mm for China, and from the B6 on FAW-Volkswagen built the car as the Magotan while Shanghai Volkswagen kept the Passat name. A long-wheelbase Magotan based on the facelifted B6, the B7, came in 2011. The version based on the B8 uses a 2,871 mm wheelbase, and a new generation related to the B9 Passat followed in 2024.
