Road-going homologation series for the Polo R WRC rally programme (WRC titles 2013-2016). World premiere December 2012 in Monaco, deliveries from September 2013, left-hand drive only, German price EUR 33,900. Most powerful production Polo of its time: the 2.0 TSI replaces the Polo GTI's 1.4 TSI (+40 PS, 350 Nm vs 250 Nm). Run limited to 2,500 cars, all front-wheel drive with a short-shift six-speed manual despite the 'R' badge. STORY

The Volkswagen Polo is a supermini launched in 1975, originally a rebadged version of the Audi 50. Over successive generations it has grown in size and been offered in hatchback, saloon, coupé and estate forms, becoming one of VW's best-selling models worldwide. The Polo was named European Car of the Year for 2010.
