STORY
The name came from a 2006 reader vote: in a 2006 Auto Bild reader vote of more than 350,000 votes, Tiguan, a blend of Tiger and Leguan, won with 117,824. The first generation was shown at Frankfurt in September 2007 and built in Wolfsburg. An Allspace with up to seven seats and an 11 cm longer wheelbase had its world premiere at the Detroit show in January 2017. The Tiguan reached 910,926 units in 2019, and the third generation was shown to 10,000 Wolfsburg employees on 19 September 2023, when Volkswagen counted 7.6 million Tiguans since 2007.
