STORY

Volkswagen announced the Touran in August 2002 as a compact MPV on the new Golf platform, known internally as PQ35. The name joins Tour, for long-distance comfort, with the ending of Sharan, which marks Volkswagen's people carriers. Production began in Wolfsburg in late 2002 and European sales followed in early 2003, with FSI petrol and TDI diesel engines. The second generation was built there from 2015, and Wolfsburg production ended at the end of April 2026.
