The Story

Why the Vento (Polo) matters

Volkswagen reused the Vento name for a Polo-based sedan built at its Chakan plant near Pune and launched in India in July 2010. Petrol and diesel 1.6 engines came first, and a 1.2 TSI with a seven-speed DSG followed in 2013. The 1.5 TDI arrived in 2014 at 105 PS and was raised to 110 PS in 2016. Mexico took the same India-built car in late 2013, with a 1.6 TDI following in January 2014. In January 2022 the Indian range was cut back to versions with a 1.0 TSI. In December 2022 Volkswagen announced that it would stop selling the Vento in Mexico, after 396,245 cars in ten years, with the Virtus as successor there.
