STORY

Volkswagen presented the Vento to the press in Wiesbaden on 19 January 1992 as the European name for the third-generation Jetta. It was a four-door notchback built on the Golf III with a 550-litre boot. Engines included a 75 PS 1.6 and the 2.8-litre VR6 with 128 kW (174 PS), and a 90 PS 1.9 TDI joined in 1993. Vento is Italian for wind. North America kept the Jetta name. Production in Germany ended in July 1998, and the Bora took over.
