STORY

The 460 arrived in 1989 as the four-door saloon version of the 440 hatchback, which Volvo had presented in 1988. Like the 480 coupe of 1986 it had a transverse engine and front-wheel drive. Engines were four-cylinder single-overhead-cam units from 1.6 to 2.0 litres, plus a 1.87-litre turbo diesel, with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. It was built in Born in the Netherlands alongside the 440, by Volvo Car B.V. and from December 1991 by NedCar, and both ended in November 1996 with the S40 and V40 already on sale.
