STORY

The Volvo 480, launched in 1986, was a front-wheel-drive sports hatchback with pop-up headlamps, the first Volvo to abandon rear-wheel drive and the first designed with a wedge-shaped, aerodynamic body. Built at Born in the Netherlands on the 300-series-derived platform, it used Renault four-cylinder engines including a turbocharged version. It was intended for the US market but was ultimately sold only in Europe before production ended in 1995.
