STORY

Volvo unveiled the 760 GLE in February 1982 as the top model of the new 700 series, and the 740 followed it in 1984. The launch range included a 2.8-litre V6 and a turbocharged six-cylinder diesel. In 1985 the Bertone-developed 780 coupe was shown at Geneva as an exclusive two-door at the top of the range. In autumn 1990 the 960 took over from the 760 as Volvo's top model, so the 760 had about eight years in that role.
