STORY

The 960 was introduced in autumn 1990 as Volvo's new top model, replacing the 760, and Torslanda started building it that same year. Its launch engine was an inline six of about 3 litres rated at 150 kW (204 PS). In 1991 the front-wheel-drive 850 arrived beside it. The 960 saloon and estate were renamed S90 and V90 in late 1996, as 1997 models. The 940 is a separate car, sold with four-cylinder engines, and the two should not be mixed.
