Volvo announced on 20 February 2024 that the XC40 Recharge would be called EX40. The car is the XC40 Recharge P8 shown in October 2019, Volvo's first series-production fully electric model, which went into production in October 2020 on the CMA platform. The original P8 had a 78 kWh battery, 300 kW (408 PS) and a projected WLTP range of more than 400 km. A fast charger was quoted to take it to 80 percent in about 40 minutes. With the rename came a Performance software pack for Twin Motor cars that raises output to 325 kW.
Fully electric small Volvo SUV, the EX40, sold from 2024 as the renamed electric version of the XC40.
