STORY
Volvo presented the PV444 in September 1944 at an exhibition in the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm, and contracts for about 2,300 cars were signed at the show. It took until 1947 before the first cars were delivered. The first version used a 1.4 litre four-cylinder engine of about 40 hp SAE. The PV444 was replaced by the PV544 in August 1958, by which time about 196,000 PV444s had been built in total over the run of the model.
