STORY

Volvo moved production from the PV444 to the PV544 in August 1958, when the older car, first shown in 1944, had reached about 196,000 units. In 1959 the PV544 became one of the first cars with Nils Bohlin's three-point safety belt as standard, at first on the Nordic market. Volvo dates the first delivery, to a dealer in Kristianstad, to 13 August 1959, while the German patent office dates the first 544 with the standard belt in Sweden to 1958, a year earlier than Volvo and the Lemelson Center.
