STORY

The V40 name has belonged to two cars. The first, launched in 1995, was the estate version of the S40, built at NedCar in Born, the Netherlands, the Volvo and Mitsubishi factory that also made the Carisma on a shared floor pan. The V50 took over that role in 2004. The name returned in 2012 on an all-new five-door hatchback that Volvo revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012. It was built in Ghent, Belgium, with production due to start in May 2012, and Volvo presented its pedestrian airbag as a world first, a claim made by the company itself.
