Volvo showed the XC40 Recharge P8 in October 2019 as its first series-production fully electric model. It went into production in Ghent, Belgium, in October 2020 on the CMA platform, with a 78 kWh battery, two motors making 300 kW (408 PS) and a projected WLTP range of more than 400 km. A fast charger was quoted to take it to 80 percent in about 40 minutes. The Recharge name was also used on the plug-in hybrid XC40, and those cars stay on the XC40 page. On 20 February 2024 Volvo dropped the Recharge badge from its electric cars and renamed this one EX40, which has its own page.
The fully electric XC40 as it was sold from 2020 until the February 2024 renaming to EX40, Volvo's first series-production electric car.
