STORY

The first XC60 premiered at Geneva on 4 March 2008 with City Safety as standard: a laser sensor in the windscreen sees up to 10 metres ahead and the car can avoid a collision below 15 km/h of speed difference and reduce its severity up to 30 km/h. First cars were due at European dealers in autumn 2008 and in the United States in early 2009. Production of the second generation was planned to start in Gothenburg in April 2017, shortly after the original XC60 passed 1,000,000 built at Ghent. The new XC60 was named 2018 World Car of the Year, ahead of the Range Rover Velar and Mazda CX-5.
