A driverless RS 7 that laps a race track using 3D cameras and precise GPS.
Audi turned an RS 7 Sportback into a technology carrier that drove the Hockenheimring on its own at the DTM finale in October 2014. It used extra 3D cameras, corrected GPS signals and a stored track database to hold a racing line to within centimetres. Audi predicted a lap of about 2 minutes 10 seconds at up to about 240 km/h and lateral forces up to 1.1 g.
Key facts
- Engine: 4.0 L twin-turbo V8 TFSI (standard RS 7)
