Audi Steppenwolf (2000)

Audi's first full off-road concept, a short quattro crossover on the A3/TT platform.

The Steppenwolf was a three-door compact off-road study built on the A3 and TT platform, with a transverse 3.2 litre V6, a six-speed manual and quattro drive through a Haldex coupling. It added four-level air suspension and a removable carbon-fibre roof. It was never built in series, though the idea came back later in the Cross Coupe quattro study and the Q3.

Key facts

  • Engine: 3.2 L V6, transverse, front
  • Power: 165 kW (224 PS)
  • Transmission: 6-speed manual, quattro with Haldex coupling
  • 0-100 km/h: under 8 s
  • Suspension: 4-level adjustable air suspension

Production

  • Status: Concept only
  • One-off study with no direct production successor; the Cross Coupe quattro (2007) and the Q3 later took up the same idea.
  • Revealed at Paris Motor Show, Paris, autumn 2000; shown to the North American public at the Detroit auto show in January 2001
