Daihatsu FC ShoCase

A rare-metal-free liquid fuel-cell kei car

A zero-emission kei-class fuel-cell concept shown at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, previewing Daihatsu's compact fuel-cell platform (in development since 2007). Rather than gaseous hydrogen, it ran on liquid hydrazine-hydrate, easier to handle and store, and used an alkaline anion-exchange fuel cell that eliminated platinum in favour of cheaper metals such as cobalt and nickel. It achieved an output density of 0.50 W/cm2 with only water and nitrogen as emissions, its stack stowed under a flat floor.
