Continental Europe's first gas-turbine car, and a 30-year aero record holder
Fiat's Turbina was the second gas-turbine car from a manufacturer after Rover, and the first built in continental Europe. Its turbine produced 300 hp at 22,000 rpm and drove the rear wheels through a reduction gear, with an estimated 250 km/h top speed. Wind-tunnel-honed bodywork achieved a drag coefficient of 0.14 - an automotive record it held for 30 years. Overheating and fuel thirst ended the project; it now resides in Turin's automobile museum.
