General Motors Le Sabre concept (1951)
Concept car · 1951 · Combustion

A jet-fighter fantasy Harley Earl drove to the office.
Harley Earl's 1951 Le Sabre translated the look of the North American F-86 Sabre jet into an automobile, pioneering the wrap-around windshield and tailfins that swept 1950s styling. It used a supercharged aluminum 215 cu in V8 with dual carburetors (one fed methanol for boost) and lightweight cast-magnesium body panels. Earl used the fully functional show car as his personal daily driver.
