Adam LZ on the Formula Drift grid with his DriftHQ BMW E36

Long-form garage to pro paddock, on camera the whole way.

The drift driver an entire generation found through YouTube before they ever stood at a track. His daily-driver builds, missile-car logbooks and FD Pro arc made the discipline legible to viewers raised on long-form car content.

LZ came out of BMX, started filming his cars around 2017, and quickly turned the channel into the canonical "watch someone learn to drift" archive. The early days were a Nissan 240SX missile car, an E46 wagon, a 350Z, each build documented for hours, the failures left in, the swaps explained. For a viewer who didn't grow up at the track, that long-form was the syllabus.

By 2022 he had earned a Formula Drift Pro license. After a 2023 season sharing an RTR Mustang programme with Vaughn Gittin Jr., and taking his first FD Pro round win that year, he moved to his own DriftHQ BMW E36, the platform he took to further Pro round wins in 2024 and 2025. The framing stays consistent: the YouTube channel publishes the build process, the FD season runs are the recap, the followers track the arc weekly.

The cultural function is gateway. A drifter ten years younger than the Tsuchiya-Pluspy generation doesn't arrive through underground touge tapes; they arrive through Adam LZ explaining why the missile car has zero camber. The page makes that visible on purpose, the chain from amateur viewer to paddock licensee runs through this channel for a meaningful share of the modern grid.
