Koudai Sobagiri contests D1 Grand Prix in a Shibata-built Toyota GR86 (ZN8), a program run on Rydanz tires. His strength is the tanso, the judged single run, where consistency and line control decide the score.

In 2025 he took the annual solo-run championship on 126 points, ahead of Hideyuki Fujino's 119, dominating the discipline that rewards precision over head-to-head chaos.

He carried that form into the overall title fight and led the standings into the final round, but was overhauled to finish second overall on 169 points, one point behind the champion, while also placing runner-up in the tandem battle.
