2019: Papadakis dynos a B58 past 1,000hp
Moment in drift history · US

Papadakis Racing posts the dyno session of the GR Supra's B58 engine making over 1,000 horsepower (November 2019), ahead of the car's Formula Drift debut in 2020. Drift becomes engineering theatre: the storytelling is the part you can replay, not the part on track.
Papadakis Racing brought the Toyota GR Supra to Formula Drift in 2020, replacing the team's previous 2JZ-powered programme with a B58 inline-six, the BMW-Toyota engine from the street GR Supra. The build was filmed and uploaded as a long-form engineering arc, including a June 2020 video on the body kit and first drift.
The dyno video, published on 20 November 2019, was titled "B58 Engine Dyno 1000+ Horsepower - Sounds like a 2JZ!?". The number was the headline; the storytelling around it was the actual moment. Press coverage of the engine build followed in the weeks after.
The video became a reference point for engineering-style content in American drift. Many teams now publish build and dyno content as part of the season arc.
