Daikoku PA Friday-night car meet, Yokohama

Friday night, Tokyo Bay reflections on the bodywork.

Not a track. A parking area at the intersection of three expressways on the Wangan loop. After dark on a Friday it becomes a moving exhibition of every Japanese tuning subculture: VIP, bosozoku, kanjozoku, missile cars, Lambos with bosozoku exhausts, R34s nobody has the heart to drive in daylight.

Drift culture sits in the middle of this without owning it. A practice-day S15 covered in sponsor stickers parks next to a tastefully unmodified Z3, and the kid filming both belongs to the same scene as both of them. Daikoku is where car culture stops being categorical for a few hours.

You do not drive here to drift. You drive here to be seen by the people who do drift, and to see them in the cars they only really show on Friday nights when the bay air smells like gasoline and the lights from the bridges write across the windshields.
