25Xi

1st gen (CB5/CC2/CC3) · 1992–1995FWD

The 25Xi is the better-equipped counterpart to the 25Gi in the late first-generation Inspire, produced from 1992 to 1995 for Japan. A 2.45-litre five-cylinder delivers 190 PS and 237 N m through an automatic to the front wheels. Mechanically the two are identical, so the choice came down to the equipment list.

STORY

Honda introduced the Inspire in 1989 as the Accord Inspire, a front-drive sedan with a five-cylinder engine mounted longitudinally ahead of the front axle. A 1992 update enlarged the engine to 2.5 litres, and the second generation of 1995 added a 3.2-litre V6. The 1998 third generation dropped the five-cylinder for V6 power on the US-built Accord platform, and later added the 260 PS Type S. A fourth generation followed in 2003 with a 3.0-litre V6 and cylinder deactivation, and the fifth, released in 2007, used a 3.5-litre V6 based on the North American Accord. Sales ended in 2012.
