25V 5AT

3rd gen (UA4/UA5) · 2001–2003FWD

The later 25V of the third-generation Inspire, sold from 2001 to 2003, gained a five-speed automatic in place of the earlier four-speed. The 2.5-litre V6 still gives 200 PS and 240 N m to the front wheels. The extra ratio is the main change over the 1998 car.

STORY

Honda introduced the Inspire in 1989 as the Accord Inspire, a front-drive sedan with a five-cylinder engine mounted longitudinally ahead of the front axle. A 1992 update enlarged the engine to 2.5 litres, and the second generation of 1995 added a 3.2-litre V6. The 1998 third generation dropped the five-cylinder for V6 power on the US-built Accord platform, and later added the 260 PS Type S. A fourth generation followed in 2003 with a 3.0-litre V6 and cylinder deactivation, and the fifth, released in 2007, used a 3.5-litre V6 based on the North American Accord. Sales ended in 2012.
