Montero Sport 3.5 V6

K90 · 2000–20084WD

The Montero Sport 3.5 V6 of 2000-2008 is the facelifted late first-generation model, still on the Triton-based body-on-frame chassis. It keeps the 6G74 3.5-litre V6 (roughly 189 PS), so it differs from the 1996-2000 car through the update's revised styling rather than the engine; North American sales ended after 2004.

STORY

The nameplate began in 1996 as the Challenger, also sold as the Montero Sport, and the same vehicle carried the names Pajero Sport, Montero Sport and Challenger depending on the market. Mitsubishi presented the all-new Pajero Sport on 1 August 2015, built at the Laem Chabang plant in Thailand with a 2.4 L MIVEC turbo diesel and an 8-speed automatic that was a first for a Mitsubishi model. The maker claimed 17 percent better fuel economy than the predecessor, without naming a test basis. A facelift followed in Thailand on 25 July 2019 with eight-inch displays, Lane Change Assist and a powered tailgate.
