STORY

The Kapitan was Opel's upper-class sedan from 1938 to 1970, with a break from 1940 to 1948. The first car had a 2.5-litre six with 55 PS, and production stopped in 1940. The car came back in 1948, got a new nose and 58 PS in 1951, and a pontoon body with 68 PS for 1954. The Kapitan P 2.5 of 1958 lasted a single year; its successor, the P 2.6, had a 2.6-litre six with 90 PS. In 1964 the Kapitan joined the Admiral and Diplomat in a new three-model range, with a Chevrolet V8 in a handful of cars, and the Kapitan B of 1969 was dropped after about a year.
