X60 Sedan 2.2 Diesel (L)

X60 · 1981–1984RWD

This Cressida is an X60 sedan sold in Europe from 1981 to 1984. It has a 2.2 litre four-cylinder diesel engine, the L engine, rated at 66 PS, and rear-wheel drive. Europe received the Cressida in only a few markets, with 2.0 litre four and six-cylinder engines and this 2.2 litre diesel, because Toyota was pulling back from large cars there. It is the smallest-output X60 in the range, far from the 2.8 litre six-cylinder cars sold in the US and Australia.

STORY

The Cressida was the export name of the Corona Mark II, a name never used in Japan. The first Mark II built under it, the X30, began production in December 1976. The X60 generation arrived in October 1980, and the US version used a 2.8 litre inline-six. In 1983 the US car received the twin-cam 5M-GE, rated at 143 hp (SAE net). The X80 followed in 1988 in Japan. US sales began for the 1978 model year, and the name ran in most export markets from 1976 to 1992.
