XU40 · 2007–2013FWD

Front-drive XU40 Kluger for Australia, launched in August 2007 and sold to 2013 with the 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 and an automatic gearbox. Two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive cars were offered in KX-R, KX-S and Grande trims. This one sends drive to the front wheels only, with five or seven seats depending on grade.

STORY

The Kluger name was used for the first-generation Highlander, built for Japan from November 2000 to May 2007 and sold exclusively through Toyota Netz dealers. Australia received the XU20 in October 2003 with a single engine, a 3.3-liter V6. The XU40 followed in August 2007 with a 3.5-liter V6, and the XU50 in 2014. The fourth-generation XU70 reached Australia in June 2021 on the TNGA platform with a V6 and, for the first time, a 2.5-liter hybrid. Japan did not receive the second generation under the Kluger name.
