The Kluger name was used for the first-generation Highlander, built for Japan from November 2000 to May 2007 and sold exclusively through Toyota Netz dealers. Australia received the XU20 in October 2003 with a single engine, a 3.3-liter V6. The XU40 followed in August 2007 with a 3.5-liter V6, and the XU50 in 2014. The fourth-generation XU70 reached Australia in June 2021 on the TNGA platform with a V6 and, for the first time, a 2.5-liter hybrid. Japan did not receive the second generation under the Kluger name.
Toyota's name for the Highlander in Japan and Australia, a three-row family SUV that began as a car-based crossover in 2000. Japan sold only the first generation, while Australia has used the name since 2003 through four generations, most recently with a hybrid.
