The Story

Why the Sprinter Marino matters

The Sprinter Marino went on sale in May 1992 and was built under contract by Kanto Auto Works until mid-1998. It was sold only at Toyota Vista Store locations, with a Corolla Ceres twin sold at the Corolla Store. The body was a four-door pillarless hardtop on the E100 platform with a 2,465 mm wheelbase. Engines were the 1.5-litre 5A-FE in the F grade, the 1.6-litre 4A-FE in the X grade and the 20-valve 1.6-litre 4A-GE in the G grade, at 160 PS at first and 165 PS as the Black Top from 1995. Buyers could choose a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual, with a six-speed manual on the Black Top. A minor facelift came in May 1994. The Marino ended in 1998 without a direct replacement.
